Drunk drivers are dangerous whenever they take to the roads. That’s why there are so many laws to prevent drivers from being on the roads after drinking and punishments for those who choose to ignore those laws. They put innocent people at risk, and they put themselves at risk, too. This situation is a good example of how a drunken driver can impact many lives, including their own.

In 2013, you read about a young woman who was involved in a drunk driving accident along the Sawgrass Expressway in Florida; she made the news for this accident due to the extreme neglect she showed. The woman was traveling at up to 96 miles per hour when she struck another vehicle, killing the two 21-year-old women inside.

At the time of the accident, the woman who caused the accident was only 20 years old, but she had a blood alcohol content level of nearly twice the limit. She was also found to have had marijuana in her system, which could have contributed to her intoxication before the crash.

The story made headlines because the young woman had posted “2 drunk 2 care,” to her Twitter account just a few hours before the wreck took place. Her boyfriend had allegedly been angry at her because she had been drinking with co-workers that day while still a minor.

After the crash, the 20-year-old admitted that she didn’t remember driving on the highway in the wrong direction or the crash itself. She pleaded guilty to two DUI manslaughter charges, and now has been sentenced to a permanent ban on her license along with 24 years in prison.
