Many Florida diners like to visit buffet restaurants because they offer a lot of food for a great price. One woman, however, got more than she bargained for when she allegedly slipped and fell on a puddle of water while carrying her food back to her table.
The slip-and-fall injury occurred at a Golden Corral in Louisiana. The water caused the woman to fall to the ground and suffer serious personal injury. On Nov. 26, the woman filed a premises liability suit against Corral Gulfsouth Inc. and James River Insurance Company.
It is unknown how much money the woman is seeking, but she is seeking compensation for multiple damages, including medical bills, physical and mental pain and suffering, scarring, disability, disfigurement and loss of enjoyment of life. The woman is accusing Golden Corral of allowing a dangerous condition to exist, failing to keep the floor dry, lack of safety, lack of proper inspection and maintenance, and failing to warn customers of the condition.
Although it can be virtually impossible to avoid all slip-and-fall accidents in a busy establishment, restaurant owners should take the proper steps to increase safety for customers. Food and beverages can spill, leading to falls caused by dirty floors and puddles of water. This is especially true in a buffet setting, where many people – children and adults alike – are trying to get their food at the same time.
The woman suffered serious personal injury due to the restaurant’s negligence and has the right to seek compensation. A leisurely trip to a buffet has now caused her medical expenses and permanent defects that she may be dealing with for the rest of her life.
