Amid scorching summer days, news of a widespread Listeria ice cream recall has sparked concern among Miami residents. Originating from a Maryland-based food manufacturer, Totally Cool Inc., this recall spans over 60 ice cream products, including popular brands like Hershey’s, Friendly’s, Chipwich, and Jeni’s. These products, ranging from pints and sorbets to cakes and sandwiches, are potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous bacteria known for causing severe food-borne illnesses.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initiated the recall after detecting Listeria in samples, although no illnesses have been reported yet. Despite proactive measures by Totally Cool to cease production and investigate, the presence of Listeria poses serious health risks, particularly to vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
