Honda recalled 750,000 vehicles due to potential airbag defects. According to NPR, affected models include “Honda Civic, Accord, CR-V, Fit, HR-V, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Passport, Ridgeline, as well as the Acura MDX, RDX and TLX, from model years between 2020 and 2022”. To check if a vehicle is part of the recall, drivers may visit nhtsa.gov/recalls. The manufacturer is offering replacement parts at no cost to vehicle owners. 

Frontal and knee airbags may deploy in a crash when they should not, posing a greater risk of harm to infants, children, and any person shorter than 4 feet 11 inches. As of January 19th, 2024, Honda has received no reports of injury or death related to the malfunction.

  • 2020 Honda Fit
  • 2020-2022 Honda HR-V
  • 2021 Honda Insight
  • 2020-2022 Honda Odyssey
  • 2020-2022 Honda Pilot
  • 2020-2021 Honda Passport
  • 2020-2021 Honda Ridgeline
  • 2020 Acura MDX
  • 2022 Acura MDX

Affected owners can expect to receive notifications starting on March 18th and are advised to bring their vehicles to Honda and Acura dealers for the replacement of the faulty part.

Takata Airbag Recall

Earlier in the month, Honda also issued a “Do Not Drive” warning noting that certain vehicles equipped with Takata Alpha driver-side airbag inflators may malfunction. Honda is warning drivers not to drive until the parts have been replaced. 

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Acting Administrator Ann Carlson added, “If you have a vehicle with a recalled Takata Alpha airbag, you must get it repaired now – for free. These inflators are two decades old now, and they pose a 50% chance of rupturing in even a minor crash. Don’t gamble with your life or the life of someone you love – schedule your free repair today before it’s too late.”

  • 2002 Honda CR-V 
  • 2002 Honda Odyssey 
  • 2003 Honda Pilot
