Fisher-Price has recalled its 4-in-1 Rock ‘n Glide Soother because of a suffocation risk linked to four infant deaths, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The Rock ‘n Glide Soother is designed to rock babies to sleep using a powered gliding motion that rocks babies forward and back, or side to side. Infant deaths associated with the product were reported to have been placed in the product, unrestrained. Babies suffocated after rolling onto their stomachs. Deaths tied to this recall happened between April 2019 and February 2020.

Fisher-Price is also recalling its 2-in-1 Soothe ‘n Play Glider, but no fatalities have been reported with that product. According to the CPSC, about 120,000 4-in-1 Rock ‘n Glide Soothers and 55,000 2-in-1 Soothe ‘n Play Gliders were sold in recent years in the U.S.

In 2019, the company agreed to recall 4.7 million Rock ‘n Play sleepers, a similar baby sleep product to the current recall. The Rock ‘n Play recall was linked to more than 30 deaths, most by suffocation after unrestrained babies rolled over in the product. Fisher-Price claimed the deaths resulted from the product being used “contrary to safety warnings and instructions.”

The CPSC has advised consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Fisher-Price for a refund.

The CPSC explained that the best place for a baby to sleep is on a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet, or play yard. Babies should always be placed to sleep on their backs and their sleeping area should be free of blankets, pillows, and other items.

Manufacturers Product Liability

Companies that create products for children and adults are responsible for the safety of their products. They are also responsible for informing consumers of all potential dangers tied to their products. Sometimes dangers may be unforeseen when a product is introduced to the market, but manufacturers may still be held liable for damages associated with using their product.

Manufacturers must be held accountable for the integrity of their products and product liability lawsuits play an important role in helping to keep our families and communities safe. At Panter, Panter, & Sampedro, we have experience in trying all types of product liability cases. We are here to answer questions if you or a loved one believe they have been injured by a harmful or faulty product. Call (305) 662-6178 to schedule a free consultation.
