A fatal accident can occur in a matter of seconds. When such an accident occurs because of someone’s negligence or recklessness, the family’s loss of a loved is magnified. This tragic accident occurred recently in Florida and highlights the importance of operating a vehicle safely to avoid injuring – or even killing – others.
A 25-year-old man was recently arrested after his involvement in not one, but two car accidents, within minutes of each other. The accidents occurred in Windermere, several hours outside Miami. The first accident was minor, while the second one was fatal.
The fatal car crash happened on the evening of Jan. 24. The driver was first involved in an accident with another vehicle. Then, just minutes later, the man hit a vehicle head-on. The impact killed that driver, a 63-year-old woman. The man who caused the accident was arrested at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
The accidents caused traffic to be backed up for more than 30 minutes. Florida Highway Patrol troopers were diverting traffic, using State Road 535 as one of the detours.
When a person’s negligence causes someone to suffer serious personal injury – or in this case, death – he or she could face criminal charges. In addition to criminal charges, the man could also face a wrongful death lawsuit from the victim’s family, even if the accident was unintentional. The man was driving recklessly and his negligent actions caused the woman’s death. The family may be able to sue for damages including medical bills, funeral expenses and lost future wages. Emotional damages, such as pain and suffering, may also be claimed by the family.
