Medical malpractice exacerbates grief when a loved one dies

In Florida and throughout the United States, families grieve when they suffer the deaths of loved ones. Depending upon the circumstances, the devastation and sorrow of a family member’s death can be made worse when the matter is associated with medical malpractice. Doctor error, nursing negligence or other medical failure in caring for a patient can result in tragedy when a death occurs due to substandard care.

A man who served the nation in the armed forces was a long-time patient at an army medical center. In 2010, the then 55-year-old made repeated visits to the facility, complaining of chest congestion and tightness. Apparently, he was not provided any form of treatment to resolve the ailments.

Several months later, the man suffered a heart attack that resulted in his death two days later. His widow has recently filed a lawsuit against the United States for the substandard care she claims her husband received at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon. The claim asserts that the man’s death is directly related to the fact that medical professionals failed to treat his ongoing health issues. An autopsy showed that he had a severely enlarged heart.

Medical malpractice is a serious issue that can result in injury or illness to patients in Florida and throughout the nation. In the worst cases, such as that of the military veteran who seems to have been suffering from heart problems that went untreated, family members can be devastated by the untimely death of a loved one who might otherwise have gotten well if appropriate care had been provided. Those considering filing legal claims regarding such matters may consult with an experienced attorney in order to process their claims.
