Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people. A major car accident in the Miami-Dade area recently killed a deacon who has on his way to church with his daughter. The church congregation remembers a man of such great faith and one of the rocks of the church.
The 57-year-old man and his teenage daughter were on their way to church services on the morning of Sept. 29. At the intersection of Southwest 72nd Street and Southwest 117th Avenue, two cars were stopped at a red light, while two others were traveling north. The two cars traveling north collided and caused a chain reaction, hitting the two stopped cars.
The man and his daughter were in one of the cars stopped at the red light. The car flipped over from the force of the collision. The daughter was able to crawl away from the wreckage; however, her father was not so lucky, and he died at the accident scene. The daughter was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and is currently in stable condition.
The driver and passenger in the car that caused the accident are also in stable condition. Detectives are still determining what caused the accident, but it is believed that a medical condition may have been involved. The driver allegedly suffered a seizure while driving, and his foot hit the gas pedal, causing his car to accelerate and hit the other vehicles.
Each accident is different and while criminal charges may not be filed, the person responsible for the accident may still be held liable in a civil case. Those who are injured or the families of those who lost their loved ones may file a civil action for such claims as medical expenses, pain and suffering, emotional distress and other damages.
