Many people enjoy riding motorcycles because they offer freedom while on the open road. However, motorcycles are not easily seen by other vehicles and therefore come with a high amount of risk. A Florida motorcycle accident proves this point.
A 20-year-old college football player at Florida State — the grandson of golfing great Jack Nicklaus — totaled his motorcycle on May 2, but the video footage from tomahawknation.com, a website that covers Florida State University athletics, has just now become available, nearly three months later. Video from a nearby bus caught everything.
When a Lexus pulled out in front of the man, his motorcycle collided with it. He and his motorcycle both flew through the air, with pieces of the motorcycle hitting the windshield of the bus. He slid about 80 feet before getting up and walking away.
Miraculously, the college student’s injuries were minor. He was able to walk away from the accident with no serious injuries. He did seek medical treatment for the injuries, and his coach claims that he was banged up for a month, but otherwise is doing fine. The starting tight end is not on Florida State’s injured list for the upcoming season.
The driver of the Lexus received a citation for causing the accident. It is unknown if the man will receive any citations for his role in the accident. By viewing the video, it appears that he is not wearing a helmet and he may have been going a little too fast.
The man is very fortunate to walk away from the crash. Most motorcycle accidents of this sort do not have a happy ending. If the police report does show the other party at fault, the football player may want to consider hiring a personal injury lawyer to determine what course of legal action he can take, if any.
