Man arrested in Miami, Florida, double-fatality car crash

A 26-year-old man has been arrested by the Traffic Homicide Unit in Coral Gables, Florida, after toxicology results allegedly showed he was driving under the influence at the time of a double-fatality accident. The car crash occurred on June 9 about 1:20 a.m., at the intersection of 8th Street and 37th Avenue.

The man, who is a local DJ in North Miami, was allegedly speeding when he slammed into a Toyota Corolla that was stopped for a red light at the intersection. A 44-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman from Sweetwater were in the Toyota and died at the scene.

The man was still hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital for serious injuries when an officer placed him under arrest. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Dade County Jail on two counts each of DUI manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter. His bond has been set at $15,000.

Even if the man is found not guilty on the criminal charges, he could still face a civil lawsuit from the family members of those who were killed. A wrongful death lawsuit could be filed on the family’s behalf. Such a lawsuit provides survivors to receive compensation for the loss of a loved one due to another’s negligence or recklessness.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a car accident, contact a personal injury attorney to learn more about your options. You may be entitled to financial compensation for such claims as pain and suffering, lost wages, loss of consort and medical expenses. Your attorney will be able to advise you on the best way to proceed to hold those accountable who were responsible for you or your loved one’s injuries.
