A 53-year-old man is dead after an accident that occurred on Florida’s Interstate 95 on Aug. 30. One day after the incident, Florida Highway Patrol was still investigating why the driver of an SUV veered into the victim’s adjacent vehicle. All lanes of the southbound highway were closed as the scene was investigated and cleared.
The accident reportedly happened when a 35-year-old woman was driving an SUV and veered outside her lane, hitting the back of another vehicle on her right. The driver of the vehicle that was hit lost control, and the car flipped over, ejecting the male driver. The SUV then veered back toward the median and hit the barrier, causing this driver to be ejected as well. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to a local hospital where the man was pronounced dead. There was no information concerning the woman’s condition at the time of the report.
Car accidents are caused by a variety of reasons, such as distracted driving, speeding or drunk driving. When a driver takes their attention from the roadway, even for a short period, an accident may occur. If an individual dies as a result of an accident, their family may experience financial problems due to funeral and burial costs, medical bills and lost household income.
A personal injury attorney could help the family by reviewing police records, accident reconstruction reports and witness accounts to determine if someone else’s negligence was a cause of the crash. The attorney may offer guidance regarding filing a wrongful death lawsuit and presenting the case in civil court. The attorney may also negotiate a settlement with the driver’s insurance provider prior to court. The suit may allow the family to recover both financial and non-economic damages.
