A Florida man recently lost his life in a motorcycle accident after he was hit by a drunk driver. The driver, a 42-year-old woman, fled the accident scene and even tried to hide the damage to her vehicle. Fortunately, a witness followed the woman and led police to her home just a few blocks away.

Authorities found the woman covering the evidence — her damaged SUV — with a tarp. She was arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter, fleeing an accident scene and tampering with evidence.

The fatal motorcycle accident occurred on the evening of Feb. 28 in Pompano Beach. The 30-year-old man was traveling southbound near the North Federal Highway when the woman in the SUV turned into the man’s direction. The motorcyclist attempted to slow down, but he rear-ended the SUV. The man was ejected and he died at the accident scene.

The woman did not stop to offer aid. Instead, she drove on home and that was when she was followed by the witness and ultimately arrested.

When a negligent driver causes death to another person through a motorcycle collision or other sort of accident, he or she can be sued by the victim’s surviving family members. In this case, the man’s family can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the woman. They would be able to receive compensation for the damages she caused to the man and his family.

The family could receive compensation for funeral expenses and emotional damages caused by the accident. If a victim received medical treatment, the family could receive reimbursement for medical expenses.
