Drinking alcohol is something many people find enjoyable, but it can often cause people to lose their good judgment. Driving under the influence can lead to fatal accidents, which unfortunately was the case with a recent situation in Florida. A woman was arrested for DUI at an accident scene after killing someone in another vehicle.
The early March car accident happened in Port St. John on US 1. A 21-year-old man was driving northbound when the 43-year-old woman was attempting to turn right in order to go southbound. She could not make the turn, which caused the other vehicle to lose control and drift into the other northbound lanes.
The woman’s vehicle struck the front left side of the man’s car. The man suffered only minor injuries in the accident, but his passenger died from personal injury. It is unknown if the driver was injured.
A fatal car crash can be emotionally and financially devastating for the victim’s family. An unexpected death caused by someone else’s negligence can cause not only grief but financially difficulties. A family member’s lost wages can cause bills to pile up. On top of that, there could be medical bills and funeral expenses to pay.
The victim’s family may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the woman. They might receive compensation for damages including loss of companionship, lost wages, funeral expenses, and pain and suffering. The amount of compensation will depend on the person’s age, occupation and contributions to his family, as well as many other variables. Although this money won’t bring back a deceased victim, it can help a family pay for unexpected expenses and compensate them for non-economic losses.
