Many Florida residents love dogs, but when they are approached by loose dogs – especially pit bulls – it can be a scary situation. Strange dogs can attack humans, resulting in serious injuries, disfigurement or even death. A recent incident in Southern California left two people injured by dog bite wounds.

The incident happened in the early morning hours of Jan. 25 at an apartment complex. Police arrived at the scene and found two dogs described as “pit bulls types” in the parking lot. The officers made an attempt to keep the dogs away from the public. When Animal Control arrived and tried to capture the dogs, one of the dogs attacked a police officer twice. It was shot at both times and eventually died.

The other dog was taken into custody. The dog owner has not been found. Two victims suffered serious injury and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Animal bites can cause significant injuries, especially to the facial area. A dog can attack the chin, mouth or eyes, causing disfigurement or facial reconstruction. Many victims suffer from scarring for the rest of their lives.

Once the dog owner is found, the victims may wish to preserve their legal rights. They might be able to file a lawsuit and recover compensation for their injuries. They likely face surgery or stitches, which could result in significant medical expenses. They could also recover compensation for lost wages and other economic damages if they were unable to work due to their injuries. The victims could claim emotional damages as well, such as pain and suffering.
