Motorcycles are smaller than passenger vehicles, which makes them difficult to see by other motorists. This can lead to injury accidents or even death. Unfortunately, one Florida man was killed when he was thrown from his motorcycle and then ran over by another vehicle.
The fatal motorcycle accident occurred on SW 8th Street in Miami on the morning of Jan. 26. A 56-year-old woman was traveling westbound toward Gator Park in a pickup truck. When she went to turn left, she did not see the motorcyclist coming from the other direction. The 41-year-old motorcyclist swerved to avoid the truck, but he lost control and hit it. The impact threw the man off his motorcycle and into the street. The vehicle behind the pickup truck could not stop in time and the 61-year-old driver ending up running over the man.
The motorcycle accident victim was taken to Kendall Regional Hospital to be treated for his injuries, but he later died there.
It seems as though two parties could be at fault here. First is the woman driving the pickup, whose failure to yield to oncoming traffic caused the motorcyclist to lose control and crash. The man who then ran over the motorcyclist could also share some liability for his death because he did not stop in time. Hopefully, the police investigation will determine if either party should be cited or charged with a crime.
